Announced and released at the same time: DiRT Rally! At the moment this new game by Codemasters is only for PC, but depending on its popularity it could also be available for consoles. It’s a true off road simulator that’s raw and real and best enjoyed in a Playseat® racing simulator!
DiRT Rally captures the essence of what makes rally unique – that sense of trying to remain in control of your emotions, as you hurtle along dangerous, undulating roads at breakneck speed, aiming to squeeze everything out of your car whilst knowing that one crash could irreparably harm your stage time. It’s the ultimate test of a driver’s skill, and it’s the ultimate in high risk, high reward gameplay.
The difference between the earlier DiRT games and Rally is clear. Instead of gymkhana events and short laps around Battersea power station, you race in ten-minute point to point stages in Powys (Wales), Monte Carlo (Monaco) and Argolis (Greece), where you will battle to keep all four wheels on the ground as you speed over the 32 dangerous off road tracks. Each stage can be played in a spread of weather types from clear day to thick blizzard and in bright sunlight or pitch black.
You won’t be distracted by AI racers or background music; this is a rally game that cares only about you, your car, and your relationship with the road. You will feel and hear your car! It demands your full concentration as you get sucked into this thrilling game.
DiRT Rally features seventeen cars over six new and old classes, which all require their own way of handling that needs to be mastered if you want to avoid too much damage. In between races your own engineering team can try and make some patchwork repairs. You tell them which parts of your car to focus on and they do their best to fix it. As you progress through the single player campaign you can train up your crew and hire new members, increasing their ability to repair damage. Be sure not to rely too heavily on your engineers!
Codemasters will be adding chunky updates to this core version of DiRT Rally, until the full release in November. By that time the remit of Dirt Rally will have expanded to include six-player rallycross and other multiplayer modes.
Daily, weekly and monthly tournaments will be organized by Codemasters to foster a competitive scene amongst players. Entrants will set times across a set of stages, carrying across vehicle damage from stage to stage. In the future there will be rewards for the best racers!
If you want the real rally experience, be sure to play this game in a Playseat® simulator, because in this case 1 and 1 is definitely 3! Enjoy!
